Style Notes: Bold Colour
Today, we’re talking how to wear bold colour. Bold colour, primary brights have been all over the catwalks this year and into next and I’m loving seeing some colour! Colour really doesn’t have to be scary, I promise! Here’s some inspiration for the fashion colour trends, how to put together outfits and some great ideas for how to do colour blocking.

Rainbow brights
There’s a lot of bold colour in this post and I love it! Finally, we can start thinking of sunshine and beaches and cocktails and parties…Ok, maybe not that far yet, but we can start talking about Summer style and how to keep it bold beyond.
Please do check out the last post on polka dots, too where I’ve given you lost of inspiration on how to wear the print.
Colour is not just for kids
Let’s get back to bold colour or rainbow brights, as I like to call them, or Crayola colours as Vogue termed them. Whatever we call them, it’s time for colour because colour shouldn’t just be for kids! Yes, it’s Spring and pastels are queen. However, bold colour, monochromatic and colour blocking are this year’s scorching hot ticket.
I am really enjoying what’s on the radar for fashion this year because I feel like fashion is really showing its sense of fun and creativity. But, in ways that we can all wear and appreciate. I’m usually your neutral base with pop of colour kind of style – an earring or a bold, statement shoe, but I have been getter bolder and have been loving it.
Don’t be scared, let’s get inspired!

Bold Colour Outfit Inspiration
Yellow

1. Kimono dress in yellow £21 (sold out) 2. Yellow One Shoulder Dress £15 3. Yellow Heels (£130) 4. Yellow Button Midi Dress £38 5. Yellow Dress £35 6. Yellow Lace Dress £22 from £70
The colour yellow equals sunshine. Fact. You can’t see yellow without thinking wow. It’s a colour that whenever I see people wearing it, I always appreciate – whether it be a dress, a top or a yellow shoe. But, I really think if you’re the latter you should reconsider. One key piece in any colour is a good place to start and before you know it you’ll be stepping out in the yellow co-ords and suits that also dominate this season. It’s one of the biggest colour stories for fashion this year and there really is something for everyone.
Pink
Wearing pink will always be synonymous with Spring and there are so many updated ways to wear it this year: With mixed prints, in pastel form and, for our purposes, boldly. Think gorgeous fuchsia pinks for a universally wearable hue and mix them with whatever you like from muted neutrals to contrasting colour blocks (a bit more on those below!). The suit is huge this year and I’ve seen so many great ones in pink, I’m so tempted. To think I never gravitated towards pink before, now so much is in my wardrobe!

Green
1. Green Waistcoat £79.99 2.Green Earrings £6.00 3. Green Midi Dress £120 4. Sage Green Skirt £60
You really should consider green – it’s such a great colour to take you right through the year from Spring/Summer to Autumn Winter. Wear it with neutrals, with brights (see below), with browns – or just head to toe, but it’s another one that suits everyone.
I am currently obsessed with the Victoria Beckham collection where she’s teamed red heels with a green dress – just to prove red and green should always be seen!
I have the midi dress above and I love it! I wore it this weekend and got so many compliments. The pictures do not do it justice. You can have a look at it in action on my Instagram and highlights. There’s also a 20% off link in my bio there!

Coral/Orange
1.Orange trouser £15 2.Orange Satin Midi Dress £18 (on sale) 3. Orange Slingbacks £19.99 4. Orange and Pink Colour Maxi Dress £65
Living coral is Pantone’s 2019 colour of the year. It’s described as vibrant, yet mellow, which makes it a great colour for clothing and interior decor. For a tonal look it works well with rich orange red tones. Orange on its own is undoubtedly bold and I think it’s fabulous for the warmer weather, holidays and special events where you want something extra.

Blue
1.Blue Suit (sold as separates) 2.Blue Jumpsuit £16.50 (on sale) 3. Blue and Green Flats £195. 4. Blue Trapeze Dress £68 .
Hues of blue can be so beautiful. We all know how to wear and work with denim, so maybe it’s time to take it a step further, apply the same principles and go bold with blue!

1.Red and Pink Suit (sold as separates) 2. Red Jumpsuit £130 (currently on sale for £65) 3. Red and Pink Flats £80 4. Red Dress £110 (currently on sale for £29).
Red is going to be big this year and for the whole year. Shades of red have been all over the catwalks for both the Spring Summer and Autumn/Fall Winter collections from so many designers. Red and pink seems to be a colour combination we’re going to see more of – it’s all about that colour blocking as we’ll discuss later!
I’ve got a post on red jumpsuits coming up. including the one pictured above, which is now half price, so make sure to come back for that or follow on Instagram. In the meantime, check some other jumpsuit related posts here.

How to accessorise with bold colours
Now, obviously, for this post, I was feeling a little extra! The jumpsuit and bag (sadly sold out) cover just about all the colours!
I’m not saying on holiday I wouldn’t rock the bag with the jumpsuit, but, ordinarily, I would either accessorise with a neutral or single colour.
Go monochrome
But, if you’re feeling really bold try accessorising with the same bold colour to create a monochromatic look – head to toe with the same colour. That trend started in 2017 and has continued since.
White, black and gold look great with any bold colour. And a bold blazer or top always works well with jeans.
Let the bold colour take centre stage as the back ground colour, or work it into a more subdued outfit for a wonderful, wearable pop!

How to do Colour Blocking
First of all, what is colour/color blocking?
“Color-blocking is thought of as the exploration of taking colors that are opposites on the color wheel and pairing them together to make interesting and complementary color combinations” A brief history of colour blocking.
New colours on the block

I love how colour blocking looks – literally taking blocks of colours to build an outfit. Using the bag I’m wearing in this post is a perfect example of how colour blocking works – there are 4 colours, but just using two colours work really well. So, think about a green trouser with a bold orange top. Really!
Here is some colour block inspiration for you to get your creative juices flowing! But, to help even more, I’ve put together some colour palette ideas for you to pin for later below, too!
So, that was a pretty thorough look at ideas for how to wear bold colour – phew! Hopefully there’s lots of inspiration for pieces to try and to buy and ideas to recreate at home with what you already have.
I hope you enjoyed it!
What are your favourite colours to wear? Any combinations you’re thinking of trying?
